An original Victory Medal, short length of replacement ribbon, issued to the unusually named Morris Birmingham, lightly impressed as follows;
4911 PTE. M. BIRMINGHAM. NORTH D FUS.
Private Birmingham was entitled to a 15 Star trio having arrived in France on 3 August 1915. He was also entitled to a Silver War Badge. A couple of digits on the naming are so lightly impressed they are difficult to make out.
Morris was a bricklayer from County Durham. He served with the 3rd Battalion, with the SWB rolls noting he was discharged on 26 March 1916 due to injuries to his spine. There is a lot of information on the Pension Records on Ancestry, with severe adominal pain being mentioned and disputes as to whether his condition has been aggravated by active service.
