A family grouping that comprises;
1. A World War One era Victory Medal, correctly named to 203832 PTE. G. PEARSON. W. YORK. R.
George Pearson was from Brighouse and was entitled to a pair. Soldiers Died note that he was reported as missing on 21 August 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
2. Sold with an original Defence Medal, with box of issue and short additional length of ribbon. Box of issue addressed to Mr. S. Pearson, of Braddan , Halifax Road, Brighouse, Yorks.
Following around George s family tree shows he had a brother, born in 1878, called Sam Pearson and this would make him about the right age to have been awarded his Defence Medal in the Second World War. Furthermore, there is a Home Guard Bomb Disposal Specialist patch, so presumably the Defence Medal was awarded for his Home Guard service.
