A generally good condition and presentable copy 1914 Mons Star.
This particular copy is a very old and well known copy, but the medal is a very good quality reproduction, appears to be die struck, but pitted on the rear so likely copper, or another toned base metal rather than bronze.
It is named to;
8731 SJT. T. PATTISON, 2 R.W.FUS.
The 8731 service number in the 2nd Royal Welsh Fusiliers belonged to Peter Pattison, a DCM holder, who was killed in action on 22 June 1916 (MIC on Ancestry).
However, Ancestry hold another Medal Index Card for 8731 T. Pattison of the 2nd R.W.F., which also shows a date of death of 22 June 1916. T Pattison does not appear on CWGC nor on Soldiers Died.
I can only assume that the MICs both belong to Peter Pattison, but the MIC entitling him to a 14 Star has the wrong first initial. I ve not seen it confirmed anywhere, but it is likely a faker spotted this anomaly and created a number of fakes that would be difficult to detect before the age of the internet, as the second MIC only shows Peter Pattison as entitled to a pair (but he was entitled to a 14 trio).
Finally, I can confirm that I have previously sold another Star named to 8731 T. Pattison and a third is noted as having been sold by Wingetts Auctioneers on 21 March 2017.
Nevertheless, the Star displays very nicely and is a perfect compliment for a group missing the original Star.
